Beware! Email Coming from Brazil Promising Goodies on Ronaldo Is Malware PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Tuesday, 27 June 2006

A new malicious threat circulating in the Internet masquerades as a video file relating to a recent conversation between Carlos Alberto Parreira the coach of the Brazilian football team and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil over the physical fitness of team star, Ronaldo.

The email is in Portuguese and includes photos of the Brazilian World Cup star, as well as photos of President Lula. Currently in wide distribution throughout Brazil, it encourages the reader to click on the attached file to view a video relating to the national controversy.

The attachment is in fact a malicious Trojan .exe file. Upon download, the file extracts itself and emulates a Microsoft software installation thus allowing it to alter firewall settings such that it can operate seemingly undetected. The application then attempts to perform a distributed denial of service attack (DOS).

SurfControl, which says it was the first to identify the new malicious file has added malcode protection for this attack into databases for all products. SurfControl also advises users to update any anti-virus software.

there's a lot of malware being sent around these days.

And ever since I signed up on this sites forum, naturally had to give my e-mail, I'm receiving e-mails nearly everyday that are either spam or contain malware.

Coincidence?

ever since I signed up for the forum on this site, which included my e-mail address, I've been receiving spam and e-mails with malware constantly, and the majority are e-mails in portuguese.

This is the ONLY "brazilian site" that I'm registered with.....coincidence?
