The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced today, June 30, the swearing in of Jennifer Adams as its new Mission Director for Brazil.

Assistant Administrator for USAID's Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean, Adolfo Franco presided at the event and administered the oath to Adams. She most recently served as Health Officer at the USAID mission in Senegal.

As Mission Director for Brazil, Adams will manage the USAID program of US$ 11.1 million for fiscal year 2006. In 2000, Adams served as the Director of the Office of Health and Education in the Regional Mission to Central Asia in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

From 2004-2005, Adams was responsible for an annual program budget of US$ 15 million for USAID/Senegal as its Health Officer. She also had oversight responsibilities of USAID health activities in Guinea Bissau, Cape Verde, Mauritania and The Gambia.

Adams holds an undergraduate degree in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University and a graduate degree from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, England. She received her Ph.D. in Economics in 1989 from Cambridge University, England.
