Brazil's First Effort to Coordinate State and National Industrial Policies PDF Print E-mail

Seminar "Industrial Development Strategy in the States" is going to take place on August 3 and 4, in the city of Curitiba, capital of the southern Brazilian state of Paraná.

The seminar is promoted by the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná, in partnership with the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI).

During the event, representatives of state governments and industrial federations from all around the country will map public policies in the states and programs and best practices for industrial development implemented in Brazil in recent years. The talks will result in a set of suggestions and recommendations to state governments to be elected in 2006.

Organized by the Brazilian Institute of Quality and Productivity (IBQP), with the support of the National Confederation of Industries (CNI), the event, open only to guests, is the first in the country to discuss state development policies with representatives from each one of the 27 states in the country.

The presentation of experiences will make it possible to align state initiatives with the guidelines in the Industrial, Technological and Foreign Trade Policy and to exchange successful plans, as well as identifying complementary areas and synergies among policies.

"It is fundamental for the public policies that have been developed, implemented and evaluated by the states to be aligned with the strategies defined nationally for the promotion of industrial development of Brazil, although this does not stop states from having specific themes according to the regional potential and vocation," stated Alessandro Teixeira, the president at ABDI. He will open the Seminar with a talk about Industrial Policies in the States and Articulation with the National Policy.

The president of the Fiep System, Rodrigo da Rocha Loures, who is also going to participate in the opening of the seminar, considers the implementation of an industrial policy essential to the development of the country.

He has been defending this proposal as the president of the Permanent Industrial Policy and Technological Development Council at the CNI. "The industrial policy is a necessary instrument for the promotion of innovation within companies," he said.
