Higher Prices and Russia Give Brazilian Beef Exports a 15.5% Boost PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Tuesday, 08 August 2006

Brazilian cattle beef exports totaled US$ 2 billion from January to July this year, which represents an increase of 15.5% when compared to the same period last year.

Shipments totaled 1.29 million tons, growth of 2.3%. The figures were supplied today, August 8, by a spokesperson for the Abiec (Associação Brasileira das Indústrias. Exportadoras de Carnes -Brazilian Beef Industry and Exporters Association).

According to information supplied by the Abiec, the main factor for the greater revenues with cattle beef exports was the rise in the price of the product on the foreign market.

With the domestic market fully supplied, slaughterhouses have adopted a more aggressive policy in seeking better prices in the 180 countries that import Brazilian meats.

The main market for raw cattle beef in the first seven months of the year was Russia, which imported US$ 251 million and 171,000 tons. In second place came Egypt, with US$ 230 million and 184,000 tons, followed by Italy, Holland, the United Kingdom and Algeria.

The United States, in turn, was the main destination for industrialized Brazilian beef, with imports of US$ 165 million and 97,000 tons.

Last month, foreign sales of the product totaled US$ 355 million, which represented growth of 8.6% when compared to last year. Shipments totaled 221,000 tons in the month, a reduction of 4.11% when compared to the same period in 2005.
