Brazil Embraer's Sales Double PDF Print E-mail

Brazil's aircraft manufacturer Embraer net sales increased by 113.5% during the third quarter this year in relation to the same period last year, reaching US$ 936.5 million.

Even though the sales doubled from the same period last year, they only increased 1.3% in relation to the second quarter of this year. Embraer's net income was of US$ 137.3 million in the third quarter of the year.

The company delivered 40 jets in the period, 25 of which were the ERJ 145, 13 of the Embraer 170 and 2 Legacy.

Since the beginning of the year, 106 airships were delivered, and up to the end of the year, the total will be 145.

The order backlog as of the end of the third quarter, totalled US$ 29.5 billion, US$ 11 billion of which in firm orders.

Sales to the defense sector increased significantly in the third quarter in relation to the second quarter this year, due to the delivery of airships ALX and F5 to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).

Sales to the commercial rose 1.6%, and corporate aviation dropped by 29.7%. In relation to the same period in 2003, there was 165%, 42.5%, and 33.9% growth in commercial aviation, defense and customer service respectively.

Embraer also announced that Air Canada ordered 15 Embraer 175 airliners, plus options for an additional 15 aircrafts. The order, set to be delivered as of the beginning of July 2005, adds to a previous order made by the Canadian company during the year, of 45 Embraer 190 airliners and 45 options.

The new order adds up to US$ 420 million, with the potential to reach US$ 840 million.
