Brazil Celebrates in Paris 100 Years of Aviation Father's Demoiselle Flight PDF Print E-mail
Written by Débora Rubin
Thursday, 15 March 2007

Brazilian Alberto Santos Dumont getting ready to fly his Demoiselle in Paris Past and present will be side by side at the Salon International de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace, to take place in June, in France. Brazilian businessman Fernando de Arruda Botelho, president of Arruda Botelho Institute has been invited to fly his replica of the Demoiselle during the Salon.

Botelho is taking a heavyweight partner: the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex), which will participate in the event promoting the Brazilian companies that make aircraft parts and also, of course, airline Embraer.

That is, apart from commemorating the centenarian of one of the most important feats of Brazilian history, Brazil is going to make use of the opportunity to promote national companies.

"Today, in the aeronautical sector, we already work with a group of 15 companies that started basically serving Embraer. They now also export to the American, Canadian and European markets," stated Juan Quirós, president of the Apex, yesterday, March 14, during the release of the Demoiselle Centenary Project.

In general, these companies, all small and medium, were established by former Embraer employees. "The group recently closed a sale of 36 million euros to the European Airbus consortium," he said.

Although Embraer is already among the most important producers in the world, exports of aeronautic parts and services are still recent for Brazil. In the last five years, according to the Apex, sector foreign sales have already grown 700%.

During the event in Le Bourget, in July, the idea is to show this know-how that Brazil has to further boost these sales. The Apex makes use of the opportunity to strengthen the Brazil brand abroad.

This is so true that the Agency does not intend only to promote aeronautical technology, but also other products like meat, cane spirit and even Brazilian music.

"We always make use of these events to promote various products with greater added value," explained Quirós.

Apart from companies, the most important research center in the area will also be promoted during the seven days of the fair in France, among them the Aeronautics Technology Center (ITA) and the General Command for Aerospace Technology (CTA). The event in Paris usually attracts about half a million people.

"We are going to show that Embraer has not grown by chance. We have aviation in our blood," stated Fernando de Arruda Botelho, creator of the Demoiselle Centenary Project and great enthusiast of the feats of Santos Dumont.

Flying Brazilians

The Demoiselle Centenary Project forecasts a year full of celebrations. Apart from participating in the event in France, various commemorative flights will take place in Brazil each month up to November, the month in which the feat by Santos Dumont, which took place in Paris in 1907, celebrates its 100th anniversary.

In the sidelines of the flights - which, incidentally, will be made by Fernando himself - the IAB is going to promote, throughout the year, a series of events to promote Santos Dumont's flight and provide incentives for Brazilians to follow the example of this small aviator (the inventor-aviator was just 1.52 meters (4.98 feet) tall).

Project "You can fly" intends to take replicas of the Demoiselle and teaching material to children in distant parts of Brazil.

Apart from that, ten social entrepreneurs who stand out for their projects were selected and will have their stories told on television during the breaks of program Domingo Espetacular, on television channel TV Record. According to Botelho, the idea is to show who are the true national heroes who make the country take off, as did Dumont.

Alberto Santos Dumont, born in 1873, is considered the father of aviation for having flown his famous invention, the 14 Bis, in 1906, at a demonstration in Paris.

There is a historic controversy regarding the fact that the Wright Brothers flew three years before. Anyway, it is impossible to talk about the history of aviation without mentioning the Brazilian.

His creations, which were only possible thanks to his family of coffee farmers, served as the basis for modern aviation. Santos Dumont ended his own life in 1932, in the city of Guarujá, at the age of 59.

Embraer....Embraer...Embraer !!!!!
written by ch.c., 2007-03-15 21:40:21
I am glad to read for once someone writing the truth...or almost !!!!

You are correct to say that many companies are in fact manufacturing most parts of Embraer planes.

On the other hand, it is a perfect lie that : In general, these companies, all small and medium, were established by former Embraer employees !!!!!!

Almost all of these companies are foreign.... and not brazilian in anyway !

The latest Embraer planes are not totally Brazilian....since 16 risk sharing partners are involved....and as said most are foreigners !

And the 16 companies are not not small or medium size as per : http://www.aerospace-technolog...braer_170/ that says :
"The 170/190 regional jet family is being developed through a partnership program with major aerospace contractors, involving 16 risk-sharing partners and 22 main suppliers."

On that same page of this site you will also find out :
"Embraer is responsible for the design and development of the aircraft, manufacture of the forward fuselage, fuselage centre section II, wing-to-fuselage fairings, wing assembly and whole aircraft integration. Other companies responsible for structural sections of the aircraft include Kawasaki Heavy Industries from Japan, Sonaca of Belgium, Latécoère of France and Gamesa of Spain, General Electric

You will also find out the name of yet l other suppliers, NONE of them are Brazilian !

Thus you informations are dead wrong but you also caress your navel with your 2 hands, while in reality with 1 finger it should be enough !

Quite laughable to read that Brazilians have aviation in their blood. Thus why is Embraer so small compared to Boeing and Airbus.?
And why is foreign technologies necessary,,,if these technologies are in your blood ??????

Curious that no American or European have said that they have too aviation in their blood. Only Brazilians do !!
It is more skills, knowledges, expertises in the brains that are necessary....rather than in the blood !!!!!
Curious that Brazilians firms dont participate in anyway to Boeing or Airbus planes, while many foreign companies participate in Embraer
planes !!!!!

Really a bunch of crooks and cheaters these brazilians. They wish the world to swallow their lies when they say Embraer is made almost exlusively of Brazilian parts !

In my view, since you are unable to develop a car (no car manufacturer is Brazilian), let me have my doubts that you can build alone......planes which involves even far more technology than for cars.

And Brazil DO NOT INVEST THAT MUCH IN R&D ANYWAY, preferring the others to do it, since it costs NOTHING TO YOU on top of your inability and non expertise in planes manufacturing !!!!!

Yesssssss........Embraer is mostly......A SIMPLE ASSEMBLY LINE...USING FOREIGN PARTS AND FOREIGN TECHNOLOGY AND EVEN FOREIGN INVESTMENTS !!!!!!!!!!!

A REAL BUNCH OF....JUNKIES......THESE BRAZILIANS !!!!!!
continued.........
written by ch.c., 2007-03-15 21:48:21
and on top of the above foreign companies, here is a list of small and medium BRAZILIAN COMPANIES :

"The main system partners include General Electric (engines and nacelles), Hamilton Sundstrand (tail cone, auxiliary power unit, air management and electrical systems), Honeywell (avionics), Parker of the USA (hydraulics, flight control, fuel system) and Liebherr of Germany (landing gear). These companies have created subsidiaries in Brazil for the local manufacture of parts."

NO ONE IN THIS WORLD KNEW THAT THESE COMPANIES ARE SMALL/MEDIUM....AND BRAZILIANS, OF COURSE EXCEPT THE BRAZILIANS AVIATION EXPERTS.

laugh....laugh....laugh....laugh...laugh...laugh !!!!!!!

continued......
written by ch.c., 2007-03-15 21:56:13
AND NO ONE KNEW EITHER THAT THESE COMPANIES HAVE BEEN SET UP BY EX EMBRAER EMPLOYEES, AGAIN EXCEPT THE BRAZILIAN AVIATION EXPERTS !!!!!!

And as the article said : Brazil is going to make use of the opportunity to promote national companies.

In my view you should better continue to sell as you wrote : but also other products like meat, cane spirit and even Brazilian music.

Despite the fact that an Aviation Trade Show....IS NOT THE PLACE TO SELL MUSIC, CANE SPIRIT AND MEAT !!!!!
No doubt that few visitors will be interested.
No doubt you are not afraid of being ridicule !

LAUGH.....LAUGH....LAUGH....LAUGH !!!!!!!

Good gracious!! You were not kidding? This is like Embraer on its first day. I would agree with the notion that this is WW2 technology. The site address you have given however it is not correct, but you can google any of those companies.
Thank you

So lets be precise like the swiss laugh...your population is 7,523.934 and you have 850,000 people starving and below poverty level. Brazil population is 182,032.604. So 7,523.934 ---- 850,000 in Switzerland
182,032.604---- ( x )
( x ) = 20,564,735 million people in brazil
That would be the equivalent of brazil having the entire states of:
Alagoas-----------------2.822 million
Sergipe ----------------1.784 million
Espirito Santo--------- 3.000 million
Rio Grande North-----2.77 million
Santa Catarina---------0.536 mIlion
Brazilia F.D. -----------2.05 million

Roraima-----------------0.324 million

starving and below the poverty level. So you now say hahhhhhhh the swiss poverty level is much better than the brazilian poverty level, right? We the swiss have the best poverty levels in the world!!! Second to none!!! Our precision is in the quality of poverty not in the quantity...furthemore we the swiss as the world is quite aware have *blue eyes* poverty you don't have... we the swiss have the *silk blond hair* poverty!!! You don't have... so I rest my swiss case!!!

- on a GDP per capita, we easily beat the USA by a wide margin. And comparing to Brazil, by far far far more ! And this is wether you like it or not. So are the officials stats...not mine !!!!!!

Our currency has been strong for the last 3 decades, while the USA currency has been weak.
Even worse for the Brazilian currency !!!!!!

Same for inflation !

In view of the above, it looks like that our technology is not really the one of WW2. We were not even at war, if you have the slightest basic education !!!!!!!!

In my view based on official stats and rankings done by International Agencies (Not by me)
WE BEAT AMERICA HANDS DOWN...AND BRAZIL HANDS UP !!!!!

Yesss......dont be so jealous !
Numbers, stats speak better than words....especially when they come from idiots and junkies from this site !!!!!!!

are americans and brazilians UNABLE to manufacture quality knives ????? smile
- when you produce for exports or not 1 ton of corn, sugar or soya, we produce 1 small item weighting 100 grams : watches !
If this is low technology why none of you can produce competing products ????????? laugh

In my view : "Swiss made" is a world recognized QUALITY...commanding a premium selling price !!!!!!!! Thus we stamd that label on our goods!
Are " American made" or "Brazilian made" products recognized as QUALITY products....COMMANDING A PREMIUM OR DISCOUNT PRICES ????
Thus why dont you stamp your products with that label ??????? laugh....laugh....laugh !!!!!!! Afraid that few will buy these products....comparing them to.....CHINESE MADE PRODUCTS ???????

Thus even in technology we beat America and Brazil.....hands down and hands up !!!!!!!

Again....dont be so jealous, stats and comparatives rankings put us at the top and not the BOTTOM !!!!!!

doubtful that 850'000 swiss are living below USD 2.- per day and that one Swiss is starving !!!!!!!!!

Even if ONE HAS NO job, NO social security of whatever......the government will give a subsidize of around US$ 1500.- monthly......FOR LIFE...TO EVERY CITIZEN !!!!!!!!

AND comparing with YOUR SMALLEST STATES IS A BAD TRICK ! Typically Brazilian style to hide reality or manipulate numbers and stats !!!!

At the end just look as I did in the various World Comparative Rankings from various sources such as the WB, WEF, IMF, etc etc

At least they compare every country with the same stats and the same base !!!!!!!

Keep it very quiet, 12 000 miles far away in the South Pacific, at bottom of the world. An admirer of Santos Dumont Year 1898 was building a Santos Dumont D Dion I C engine. It is still here overlooked and forgotten. Thebuilder to remain mopstly unknown fo at leasy half a century , was it appears to be one person who designed and built his aircraft. Making a number of straight flights. Year 1903When one is seathed enjoyingnthe warm air conditioned comfort of todays modern jet airliners Wined dined and tucked in for a 500 miles an hour glide far above the clouds. Ch. c, why are you so rude ?
written by Florent, 2007-03-16 09:58:21
Dear Ch c. (sorry for not calling you with your name, it seems that you prefer to remain anonymous)

My name is Florent DePaepe. I am French, not Brazilian, not Swiss, not American.

Why are you so rude, calling the others idiot, junkies and all sort of fancy names ? If you are right in what you're saying, you don't need to offend people like that... Well, maybe it is because you are not right ... may be ?

Instead of comparing poor people in Brazil and in Switzerland (mates, how did you reached such a silly comparision ?), lets go back to the starting point:
Embraer has never claimed they were producing 100% of their aircraft. The journalist said it, not the manufacturer ...
What they did instead was asking to those who had the expertise in designing wings do do the wings. To those experts in designing the fuselage, to do some parts of the fuselage. What's wrong with this ? The aircraft has been conceived and designed in Brazil, by a team of international engineers. And that's exactly what Airbus is now doing (listen carefuly to what Louis Gallois, Airbus President, has declared on CNN and BBC two weeks ago about what Airbus should learn from Embraer ...) and this is exactly what Boeing is doing (Kawasaki will be producing the 787 wings ... as they are doing the wings for Embraer as well)
And, by the way, look at how the Pilatus PC-12 is produced ? You'll find suppliers from France, UK, USA, Ireland, Portugal and would be amazed to see that some are also suppliers to Embraer.

Cars, you mentioned cars ? Sorry Ch c. but you are wrong again. There is no more national brand indeed in Brazil, but the country produces cars that are developed and produced only in this country and that are now exported. They have acquired an incredible rep**ation for developing engines which works on ethanol. Are you aware that the Peugoet and Renault "Flex" engine which will be mounted in the new-generation cars produced in France, and which will be burning ethanol, are coming from ... Brazil ? Do you know as well that Brazil is not importing oil anymore and is now self-sufficient since December 2006 ?

Now, last but not least: Brazil has managed to reach the third rank in the commercial Aviation industry with wise decision and determination from its governement and the Brazilian engineers. They built their first aircraft, the Bandeirante, 37 years well before Airbus (which was not existing by the way) and this aircraft was 100% Brazilian as was the second one, the Ipanema (with the exception of course of the engine and avionic which no aircraft manufacturer produce today)

So, again, express you opinion in a polite way, unless you need to be rude to cover your ignorance. Debates are, most of the time, very useful ... when they involve educated people who learn from each others. At least you have managed to create a very interesting debate here, with all these people exchanging their point of view. So, carry on, but do respect the others mate !

Cheers,
Florent

Instead of comparing poor people in Brazil !!!!!!
written by ch.c., 2007-03-16 22:31:42
- Sorry, please re-read the sequence of this forum. I was NOT the one starting to compare poverty between the 2 countries.
The article and my comments were on aviation not on poverty ! Thus feel free to accuse who started the poverty comparison...but not me !

- you seem to be quite new on this forum, not me ! It happens that I was first called Idiot by brazilians on my comments ! Thus why would it be ok from one side...and not the other ?

- As to Embraer, you also were not in preceding articles and forums, where some of the members insisted that 100 % of the planes were made with Brazilian technology !

- As to Pilatus, you are referring to, did you ever once heard from me or from anyone that it was a 100 % Swiss technology ? Not to my knowledge.

- As to my rudeness.....what is more rude in your French analysis....calling someone idiot.....or f**k Bush, Americans are Nazis ??????
Far worse has been written against Bush and the USA ...from Brazilians!
If every Brazilian are free to such insult...are the others not free to write the word idiot, much softer in the tone ?
Your answer will be appreciated.

Anyway, welcome to this forum ! Smile

Your analysis and conclusion is not necessarily the one Americans have on who invented Aviation !!!!!

Sorry for you...wether it pleases you or not !

Ohhhh...and personally I really dont care who invented it and wether it was Santos Dumont or the Wright Brothers.
For me it is far more important of who developed and develops and will continue to develop this industry, such as Boeing or Airbus,
not brazilian companies...to my knowledge !!!!!!

Exactly the same could be said for cars. What I know that there are car manufacturers in some countries, such as in EU, America, Japan,
South Korea, BUT that there is NOOOOOO Brazilian car manufacturer....100 % being foreigners !!!!!!!!!

Joke #3
On a per capita basis, Switzerland exports are 25 times LARGER
A. 25 times larger than what??? Exporting what??? To where??? Keep it in mind that using “per capita” in your country is quite misleading to say the least!!!

Here we go again…your own "government statistics" says that 3% of the population in Switzerland owns 95% of the wealth in the country!!! So, using per capita is just playing silly games isn’t it?

Bill Lear developed the Lear Jet from a Swiss fighter-bomber, for which not only blueprints but hard tooling existed, designed a passenger-carrying fuselage, and the rest is history. So the Swiss have been in serious aviation work for some time. Its very name defines business jets, in the same way that Piper Cub defines light aircraft.

A Conundrum to a smart Swiss:
Dear Ch.c,
I was told that you are a very smart man… much smarter than the inferior non-Swiss monkeys inhabitants of the south hemisphere. So please help me to solve this mathematical conundrum that lets say you are directly involved with.

The Problem: (Your problem)
Your wife is 21 years older than your daughter.
In 6 years from now your wife’s age will be 5 times greater than the age of your daughter.
The question for you Mr. Ch.c is WHERE WERE YOU MR. Ch.c ???
If I may Mr. Ch.c, this is how the monkeys you are referring at the I.T.A., mathematically Solved Your Problem.

Solution:
Analytical Analysis Today:
Your wife is “Y” years old today.
Your Daughter “x” years old today
Therefore with your wife 21 years older:------------------- Y=X 21
In 6 years from now:------------------------------------------(Y 6) and (x 6)
So with your wife 5 times the age of your daughte:-------Y 6 = 5 (X 6)

Solving your problem Mr.Ch.c :
Y 6 = 5 X 30
Y = 5X 24

Substituting for the first equation: Y = X 21
You will have:
5X 24 = X 21
So Mr.Ch.c:
- 4X = 3
X = -3/4
So then your Daughter age today is (-3/4) years, or (–9) months.
Mr.Ch.c the logical explanation is that:
If your Daughter is minus 9 months today and she will be born in nine months, that means she is being conceived today and we know that you are in the computer bashing brazil right now, hence Mr. Ch.c. unfortunately for you and fortunately for your daughter…YOU CAN NOT BE THE FATHER.

Ch.c, Can't wait to see your "mathematical geniuas mind " answering this one!! laugh laugh laugh!!
