Another Brazilian Shoes' Incursion into Africa PDF Print E-mail

Painted with A. Tonal Corantes dyes Brazil's shoe components industry will be strongly represented in the mission to North Africa that the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) are going to promote late this month.

In addition to Nitriflex, a synthetic rubber manufacturer that will send one of its own employees, eight other companies in the industry are going to be represented by Daniel Schnorr, a consultant at the Brazilian Association of Shoe and Leather Components Industries (Assintecal), and owner of the Link Worldwide trading company.

"We have high expectations, because we are heading for that market," Schnorr admitted.

According to surveys conducted by the Arab Brazilian Chamber and by Apex, the shoe components industry ranks among the most promising ones in the region.

"Arab countries as a whole already buy all types of shoe components from Brazil," said Schnorr, who has been operating in the Arab world for approximately two years now.

Early last year, Assintecal inked a cooperation agreement with the Tunisian National Federation of Leather and Shoes (FNCC), designed to encourage trade in the segment by supplying Brazilian inputs for processing in Tunisia, and later exporting to other countries.

"We attended virtually all events in the sector in those countries, but we want to intensify our activity even further," Schnorr claimed. He said, for instance, that Tunisia has the largest tannery in Africa, TMM, and furthermore, the country is developing its own safety shoe industry.

One of the companies that he represents is Noko Química, which supplies chemical products for tanneries. In turn, Inbrape Tecidos sells synthetic fabrics for the manufacturing of safety shoes, Artecola sells glue, or "adhesives," in the industry jargon, and Cipatex Papéis e Tecidos sells synthetic leathers.

Although the main focus of Schnorr's trip is the shoe industry, he said that the products manufactured by the companies may be used in other industries, such as, for instance, packaging, wood and furniture, in the case of glue, and furniture, textile and automotive, in the case of synthetic leathers.

The other companies that he represents are Recouro (leathers), Formas Kunz (moulds), Tekbond (adhesives) and A. Tonal Corantes (dyes).

The mission will begin on the 28th, and will travel to Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt.
