Brazilian coffee for export Coffee exports from Brazil totaled US$ 2.72 billion from January to September, representing an increase of 21.2% over the same period of last year. In all, 20.2 million bags were shipped, a 7.4% growth in comparison with the first nine months of 2006. The data were disclosed by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (CeCafé).

In the accumulated result for the last 12 months, Brazil exported US$ 3.77 billion, a 25.4% growth in comparison with the last 12-month period. The director general at CeCafé, Guilherme Braga, has informed that this is the highest value ever recorded in the accumulated result for twelve-month periods ending in September.

In the month of September, Brazil shipped 2.2 million bags, a volume 12.1% smaller than recorded in the same month of last year, which is proof of the decrease in production in the current crop. Nevertheless, revenues from exports increased by 2%. This is due to the rise in the average price per shipped bag, which went up from US$ 118.94 in September 2006 to US$ 137.99 last month.

Bags of green coffee were the most shipped in September, at 1.93 million bags; Arabic coffee exports totaled 1.71 million bags; 213,000 bags of Robusta coffee were exported, and 281,000 bags of soluble coffee.

From January to September, Brazil shipped 707,250 bags of coffee to the Arab countries, the equivalent of 3.5% of total Brazilian shipments. Coffee is one of the main Brazilian products imported by the Arab market. The leading buyer country was Syria, which imported 268,160 bags, followed by Lebanon, at 211,250 bags, and by Jordan, at 53,920 bags.

Overall, the main buyer markets for Brazilian coffee were Germany and the United States, to where exports this were totaled 3.52 million and 3.24 million bags, respectively, with 5.9% and 2.6% increases in comparison with the first nine months of 2006.

Italy ranked in the third position, at 1.98 million bags, representing an increase of 12.6% over the volume shipped in the same period of last year. The greatest increase was recorded in exports to Spain: 21.3%, at 629,000 bags shipped.
