Brazil Guarantees: There Will Be Free Condoms for All This Carnaval PDF Print E-mail
Written by Lana Cristina

2003 Brazilian government campaign to use condom during Carnaval Anyone who needs will have guaranteed his right to a condom during the Brazilian Carnaval, which starts Friday, February 1st. And who guarantees that is Brazil's Health minister, José Gomes Temporão, who talked to reporters during a press conference to the radio stations that belong to the EBC (Brazil Communication Corporation), an organ from the federal government.

The minister made a point to stress that the whole health network in Brazil had been instructed to hand out condoms to anyone who asks for them.

NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) in recent days had complained that there were not enough condoms to go on and that there were cases like in Salvador, capital of Bahia state, where homosexuals had been barred from getting the male contraceptives.

"We have distributed 20 million condoms for Carnaval. We will distribute 600 million male contraceptives this year. We made a purchase of 1 billion condoms, which is going to insure that people can access the product regularly. The government vouches for the distribution," said Temporão.

"The condoms are already in the states and capitals. Yesterday I talked to Salvador's Health secretary. And everybody should rest assured that the condoms will be made available not only during Carnaval, but throughout the whole year," the minister added.

Temporão once again regretted the position taken by the Catholic Archdiocese of Recife and Olinda, which went to court to try to prevent the distribution of the morning-after pill in the state of Pernambuco. The Catholic Church lost its case.

"The morning-after pill is an emergency medication to be used only in cases of extreme necessity. But science has already shown that this is not an abortive pill. The morning-after pill prevents fecundation and I believe women have the right to get this medication," the minister insisted.

The Health minister said that he considered the Catholic Church's stand inadequate, but he recognized that the polemic was absolutely understandable as an issue of public health.

How Ridiculous
written by Simpleton, January 31, 2008
1 billion "free" preservativos for "regular" accessibility upon request, national population closing in on 1/3 billion, xxx million "touristas" for the taking - looks like third strike and you are out. At least Costa is playing it safe - abstinence is assured. There's an age old trick that would get you over your problem buddy - if you keep on asking enough girls, eventually one will say yes.

"Anyone who needs will have guaranteed his right to a condom" ?????
written by ch.c., February 01, 2008
Even the rapists and pedophils have the right for ONE condom....but not TWO !!!!

On a more serious note, this is all BS.
3 years ago, the government promised 1 billion free condoms. THEY LIED !
2 years ago, they promised 1,5 billion condoms. THEY LIED !

this year the promise 1 billion condoms. Was the budget reduced ????????

Do you all want the real and sad truth ?
Here it is, NOT with my own words :
"Jan 10, 2007, 19:39 GMT
Sao Paulo - The Brazilian authorities said they will not be able to achieve their goal of distributing a billion free condoms per year, local media reported Wednesday.
Mariangela Simao, coordinator of the National Programme for Sexually Transmitted Diseases-AIDS, said 251 million condoms were distributed in 2005 and 253.7 million in 2006.
'The figure of 1 billion is unfeasible. We have no way to guarantee the certification of such a large lot,' Simao said.
Quality control is absolutely necessary prior to distribution, she said.
Two Brazilian institutions in charge of quality control can currently certify between 60 and 80 million condoms a month.
'We would like to distribute 500 million condoms a year, that figure would be ideal,' Simao said, toning down the government's earlier ambitions.
The authorities commented ahead of Brazil's world-famous Carnival season next month, when the distribution of free condoms receives special attention. """"

AS YOU CAN SEE.....EVERY YEAR......DAYS OR WEEKS BEFORE THE CARNIVAL.....THE LIES ARE REPEATED !!!!

Ohhhhh...and in 2004....guess what were your promises ?
3 BILLION FREE CONDOMS !
"August 12, 2004
Pedro Chequer, Brazil's AIDS director, announced Wednesday that the nation plans to distribute 3 billion free condoms annually to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS. The condoms will be distributed mainly to the poor and the young. "

As you can see, either your government members are megalos or more simply as I frequently writes : cheaters and liars !!!

PROVE ME WRONG......IF YOU CAN !!!!!!

In the meantime, feel free to swallow whatever they want you to swallow as usual !

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

Lula and Chavez On July 4, 2006, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay met in Caracas to sign the protocol for the entrance of Venezuela into the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). After two and a half years, the protocol was approved by the legislative bodies of Argentina and Uruguay, and as of now it may be only days away from being ratified by the continent's economic megalith, Brazil.

Child labor in Brazil One hundred and eleven years after Brazil abolished slavery, the number of workers deprived of their freedom is still huge. • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.
