Brazil Invites World to Make Tourism Money in the Northeast PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Friday, 30 May 2008

Beach in Brazilian Northeast It ends today, May 30, in the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco the Nordeste Invest seminar, a tourist investment and real estate event that is counting on over 50 speakers from Brazil and from overseas.

Among the presents is the executive director at Nakheel Investment Projects, Robert Lee. The company works in real estate development in the United Arab Emirates. He is going to speak about Dubai's experience as a global tourist destination.

The Arab company, which belongs to state-owned holding Dubai World, is responsible for some of the main real estate projects in the Emirates. Among them is the construction of artificial islands The Palm, in the shape of a palm tree, and The World, in the shape of a world map. The group, which employs 1,800 people, counts on 16 large projects in the country, evaluated at US$ 60 billion.

The objective of Nordest Invest is to show the investment opportunities in the region and to expand the network of relations between national and international businesses.

The event, which should also include business roundtables between 25 foreign investors and 48 Brazilian companies, is promoted by the Real Estate and Tourist Development Association of the Northeast (Adit Nordeste) in partnership with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).

Last year, in the second edition of the event, the companies participating in the project attracted US$ 187.8 million in foreign investment for enterprises like resorts, hotels, apartments and houses.

Deals for US$ 28.34 million were closed for the export of services. In this latest edition, investors from Portugal, Spain, England, Germany, Ireland and Panama are also participating.

Among the themes covered at the conference are the Brazilian economic scene and the impact in tourism and in the real-estate market, the new development model - real estate boosting tourism, how to develop a high-end sustainable tourist destination, residential tourism in Brazil and investment perspectives in infrastructure in the Northeast as well as what to do to make the Northeast into a luxury tourist destination, among others.

The Brazilian Northeast includes the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe. The area has been prominent as one of the best destinations for the development of tourist and real-estate enterprises due to its white sand, blue sea and natural pools. The region covers an area of approximately 1.55 million square kilometers, with 3,300 kilometers of beaches.

The Gross Domestic Product of the Northeast is US$ 95 billion and its population is over 50 million inhabitants, almost 30% of the national population.

Amazing!
All the Arabs are doing is creating a place of assylum for them in Brazil in light of up coming events. Gullible and greedy brazilians are taking the bait. How clueless can you be???? This will backfire terribly with Brazil being predominantly Catholic.
And of course Brazil is the perfect place to be with all its natural resources wealth. All wall of protection somewhat from full scale chaos.. But this remains to be seen.
They will come in droves. Brazilians will feel threatened....
This will be interesting. smilies/sad.gif
Greed always obscures common sense at some point.
Do Brazilian businessmen study geopolitics? Don't they see what is happening? This is so obvious!
The fact alone that they running to a CATHOLIC country should raise eyebrows!

By now you must have discovered that during the past 6 years our rulers have mastered the art of a) Launching hundreds of projects without knowing how we are going to finance them b) sending conflicting signals to BOTH foreign and domestic investors.

This way we will end up paying more taxes to foot the bill for the Pharaonic projects all financed by BNDES.

I wonder if you know that old CPMF is going to be resurrected with a different name (CSS).

btw, the new law for the "Foreigners" is going to be easy to pass, but difficult to implement. For example, "Dnbaiacu" is born American to an American dad and Brazilian mom. Can he buy properties in the "sensitive" areas? I just don't get it.

Disagree. The rich Arabs already have asylum guaranteed in Switzerland and also in U.K. They own plenty of properties in other countries in Europe too, as Ch.c is tired of enlightening us all!

Greed always obscures common sense at some point.

Agreed

Do Brazilian businessmen study geopolitics?

Not many! Nor Geography either!!

The fact alone that they running to a CATHOLIC country should raise eyebrows!

Here I differ. Brazil is a secular democracy and there are millions of non Catholic Brazilians. I for one would not like to evaluate an investor based on his religion (nor nationality). I do not know if you recall that a year or so ago, the state owned Port Authority of Dubai bought a British company that also owned 6 or 7 ports on the East coast of the U.S. Though Bush approved the purchase, he has to back down later because of the pressure from the senate. The result was Dubai government was forced to sell their U.S. holdings to someone else.Brazil can use that kind of investment to build our infrastructure forgetting about the religion, nationality, color, etc.

As for the Arab investment in tourism narrated in this article, I agree with you: I am shaking my head too smilies/grin.gif

dont think Dubai is a different type of arab country when it comes down to it they will go with ALI

so next step is build a sepical port of entry for them as if you have ever been there when you go to open a door for you
15 of them will rush in so they dont have to open the door or touch it after you do .

with oil at its price soon they can buy the amazon and convert it to desert land like brasil is trying

"All the Arabs are doing is creating a place of assylum for them "
written by ch.c., May 30, 2008
Doubtful the wealthy arabs intends to come as tourists in such a poor area !
Why would they ?
They can afford the world best and most expensive areas.

What you are saying is like if the Group Accor (French) is building hotels all around the world...mostly for the French people desiring to reside in the copuntries hotels were built.

A) an hotel is for world tourists....if you did not know....yet !
B) expats most of the time dont reside in hotels, but in rented or bought appartments/houses.
C) and investing in the construction of hotels/condos/houses for resale, dopesnt mean for resale to arabs specifically, but to whoever wants to buy, including brazilians.

Therefore the wealthy arabs dont invest in a poor country to reside....contrary to what you pretend, they just invest in an industry where they see a return on investments.

Conclusion : 99 % of the arguments from the other above commentators are more than baseless, including the not so smart Gringo who wrote "Brazil is designing a law limiting foreign ownership." when it is the exact opposite as Joao correctly stated.

If you are begging begging begging for foreign investments in areas YOU have not invested enough, you cant design, and you dont, laws limiting foreign ownership

But you prove me that idiots are still the vast majoritty....in Brazil.
Suffice to read the clear arguments of the most educated with the best arguments, named....COSTA !!!!!!

And a comment to DNBAIACU : you are a smart brazilian....at times.
But wealthy arabs are not only welcome in my country or the UK.
They are as much welcome in France, Spain, Monaco, USA.
And they are as welcome everywhere, wether it be Germany, Philippines, Malaysia, Togo, Congo or just name it !!!!!
And they are free to chose their destinatination both for them and their money.
And if they chose to reside more in my country, UK, Spain, France or wherever is certainly more due to quality of lifestyle and security.....rather than taxes. They are not subject to taxes in their own country....anyway...and legally.

I can only repeat to the idiots saying otherwise : why would an ultra wealthy person, arab or not, chose Brazil as residence and better yet the poorest region of a country.
Those believing otherwise have a small feijado in their brain.

Maybe they know something we don't. Or they were just appeasing the populace at that time during the aftermath of 911. Politically motivated,,or in fact a real threat, this is the trend. And eyeing the situation in the Middle East should cause investors in and with that region to be prudent as regards geopolitics and world events.
The rich Arabs already have asylum guaranteed in Switzerland and also in U.K. They own plenty of properties in other countries in Europe too, as Ch.c is tired of enlightening us all!

These particular developments as of late look a little different.. like a "frenzy". And could very well be an assylum or refugee oppurtunity for the "not so rich" but well connected among the arab world.
Let me just say, my position is NEUTRAL either way. Neither for nor against anything that's happening (of course , not that it matters anyway) , but I want to show you I am not biased. I just like putting things together and anticipating certain events in light of what playfully alluded to yourself...
PROPHECY.
Government (politics) The commercial system (economics) , Religion ( the human need to believe in something) permeate human life. I find it funny that many want to discount the influence of religion in everything that is going on , and on a daily basis. You can't take it out of the big picture. Religion has been used against humanity since the beginning of times.
Be careful in discrediting the future implications on global events of this entity.
With that said,, let me let you in on a secret,, that in fact is no secret or hidden to anyone that chooses to believe it and see it for what it is.
It is a PROPHECY that religion GLOBALLY will be destroyed in the name of preserving or promoting PEACE AND SECURITY.

5 Now as for the times and the seasons, brothers, YOU need nothing to be written to YOU. 2 For YOU yourselves know quite well that the Lords'day is coming exactly as a thief in the night. 3 Whenever it is that they are saying: “Peace and security!” then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them just as the pang of distress upon a pregnant woman; and they will by no means escape. 1Thesssolonians 5:1-3
Take note that they are "SAYING' it, not necessarily ACHIEVING it
We are witnessing the "gathering of the nations"... Hello! EU. SAU. NAU and so forth. with the U.N resulting in being the umbrella of it all.

14 They are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and perform signs, and they go forth to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty. Revelation 16:14

12 “And the ten horns that you saw mean ten kings, who have not yet received a kingdom, but they do receive authority as kings one hour with the wild beast. 13 These have one thought, and so they give their power and authority to the wild beast. Revelation 17:12
This is the relinquishing of national sovereignty some of the bloggers are observing.

And in the name of "PEACE AND SECURITY". This will be their objective:

16.And the ten horns that you saw, and the wild beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire. Revelation 17:16

But what is interesting is that this is coming from GOD himself!

"For God put [it] into their hearts to carry out his thought, even to carry out [their] one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of God will have been accomplished. verse 17

Now , we can choose to believe this or not.. it an individual perogative. But this is the script to the play we are witnessing.

Blind greed and ignorance are carrying the Prophecy according to plan. It is choices that nations and individuals are making.

My argument is that political/science itself would have anyone be wary of forming big alliances with the worlds biggest hotspot. Like Forrest Allen Brown stated "

dont think Dubai is a different type of arab country when it comes down to it they will go with ALI

The Pope was just in the U.S blessing the United Nations and condemning the "Sectarian Violence" in the middle east. He was being nice about it.
Now why there is a FERVOR for arabs to come to Catholic dominated Brazil should be questioned. Either they are running for their lives "regardless of where they are going" (those with the money), or they have their own plan. The fact that they have properties and interests in europe and elsewhere is irrevelant. There appears to be a recent rush to Brazil, who at this point is still pretty open unlike the rest of Europe.
Brazils businessmen are creating SAU's future national security crisis with the northeast being right in the middle of it.
You put a cat in a corner,, what will he do?
Will Arabian nations become part of the United Nations ?
I don't think so.
We are witnessing polarization and isolation with the intent to destroy all dissidents.
I just find the utter obliviousness to all of this so interesting.
But then again ,, maybe they aren't so oblivios. Maybe the new currency the "Bankrupt" is actually sitting in the coffers. And these guys are in fact out for quick profits and building their "chalets" elsewhere. ????
Would this surprise anyone. ? I find it interesting that obviously Lula has been involved in this all along,, ( at least so he is leading us to believe) . Maybe he is just as dumb as Bush . Or probably smarter than most,,,,can I say....

The "War on Terror" .. which is not only going to remain the United States issue, it redefining the future.. Incorporate this into all your reasoning please...

GEOPOLITICS

And the northeast is the perfect place to go,,, less xenophobic europeans to deal with. And remember , people can do what they want to do with their property. Hotels are turned into apt units all the time..Arabs aren't stupid. And they do believe in this prophecy unlike most in supposedly "christian countries" who are largely agnostic or indifferent in terms of theology. Theology is the rule of the day with Muslims. Whole different mindset.
You are way too far on the economic end of thinking things out.. Get some balance...

With the Amazon , Brazil has the neutralizing Swizterland effect, (at least for the time-being) Meaning the last possible place to be throwing bombs. These days anyone with half a "bean" in their brain could rationalize that Brazil is the safest place to be. But of course , it won't be for long if "Christians " are pitted against "Muslims".

Aren't we or not in a GLOBAL RECESSION? With inflation going through the roof in most of the major playing nations. With no real end in sight. Common sense tells you to look for the cheapest place with the most desirable climate to live. And where everyone is being lead to believe is getting better, (of course with extension of credit) .
Tourism is already down. Again , Arabs aren't stupid. There "will" be trade embargos in the region at some point and the rich or well connected aren't just going to sit there and be starved out of existence. You preserve yourself down to the last minute if you can.
And just where will all these "tourists" come from if Brazil is such an undesirable place to be as you claim?
Well, for sure NOT the U.S

You are doing pretty good, kid. A real fast learner. Even that the Swiss confesses that you aa sre "mart Brazilian...at times", though he got your nationality incorrectly!! The trick in Geopolitics and International trade is to be blind to color, nationality or religion and use your brain power that the God almighty gave to us. You are not going to refuse a mutually profitable deal, just because the person on the other side of the table is wearing a turban, are you?

The problem we are facing right now is that we have become xenophobic and still want to sell our goods overseas. How the heck are we going to accomplish it? Foreign trade is give and take and 95% of our businessmen do not understand it. Unfortunately, we use the term "Turcos" while referring to the folks from the Middle East and still expect them to buy our goods. Please do read the comment I made regarding the dairy products we are exporting to the Arab countries in this magazine (Ninho Milk powder produced by Nestlé). If in another 2 years, the production cost in Brazil becomes uncompetitive, Nestlé will shift to somewhere else and still sell the product under the same brand name, leaving our milk producers sucking their thumbs. I have seen this happening before.

Why do I say all these things? Because, Brazil can not be choosy about their customers, based on the nationality, religion or color. In order to survive and grow, we have to follow the infamous Swiss neutrality smilies/grin.gif

I understand this completely "IF" you take out the current geopolitical situation or "climate". The Mlddle East is HOT, and getting hotter. Things are developing. And even little me can see the shortsightedness in making these types of alliances in a region that is so volatile. I am just anticipating watching all this play out. I find it VERY interesting.
Brazil has its own form of neutrality but it is a 'fragile" type. Based on natural resources more or less and not "hidden money". It remains to be seen just how much the global investment community and the Brazilian government value the Amazon region.
It should be noted that although Swizterland is neutral , aren't they still part of the EU? And Brazil is part of the SAU. What affects one will cause a reaction from all. Supposed "neutrality" can't be counted on this type of geopolitical enviroment.
I still think that some of these businessmen plan to take their money and run, "if they can". Or they are simply clueless.

You are not going to refuse a mutually profitable deal, just because the person on the other side of the table is wearing a turban, are you?

If wearing a "turban" is identifying you as the "enemy" by the global community at large , (or at the very least the U.S and Great Britain), and let's not be in denial about this, because this is very real (the blacklisting that is) . It stands to reason you would think twice and long about becoming financial partners under those circumstances. This is HUGE really. If only in the fact that in this magazine alone we have seen SEVERAL articles within a couple of months time highlighting the subject. It's no small operation. Is Brazil that desperate? Or at its very sinister best , is the threat being lured to Brazil AS AN EXCUSE TO ENTER THE WAR ON TERROR?
And by the way, let's just park them right in Bahia and solve nossos problemas do nordeste. That is taking it a bit too far. But in war, and especially one of this type, you cannot discount ANYTHING. Brazils leaders probably aren't as dumb as they may sometimes appear either. You see , what's going to happen , is what is going to happen. Leaders and nations just have to decide which role they are going to play, and whose side they are on. It really is that simple. If the SAU has in fact been Lula's "dream" has he stated. He has been knowing about this all along. Hell, I could see it coming since the creation of the EU. Does Brazil have its' own version of the "Council on Foriegn Relations" ? If so,, VOILA! Arab investment will be Brazils version of September 11th(911)! Remember , they will ALWAYS try to give the people a reason or excuse to do what they are going to do.
There is one thing I DO agree with the "Professor of History" on another thread. "National sovereignty?, Get over it!" EVERYTHING must be understood and interpreted in light of GEOPOLITICS.
As far as me writing an article. Yeah , there might be "equal oppurtunity", but I'm content putting my two cents in blogging. It's enough. Because most readers know that the threads are most times more informative than the articles themselves. You have to do your on "sifting" anyway. Ch.c points out misleading stats all the time in many of the articles. And many like yourself even refer you to other sites. I find all this very helpful in getting a better understand. I will be in Brazil friday checking on things for a week. Funny you mentioned purchases of property and my bi-nationality. Actually I keep things simple especially since I am not there permanently yet by buying lots and homes in my uncles name. At some point I will put everything in my own name. I have a CPF # etc. But my people have to be my "front" anyway. So I just go all the way with it.
The Northern Hemisphere Spring is HOT. And there is weird weather everywhere. Tornadoes and such. Fewer are traveling because of fuel prices we aren't used to. I even mix the public transportation with my auto usage now. Why give them any more money. They are talking now that it is a "speculation" issue that needs to be regulated in commodities. Comparing it to the non regulation of the housing industry. I think it is just purposely NOT being regulated to CAUSE the current crisis. It is getting comical now. The best thing to do is to have FUN being a minimalist, which is something I started years ago. And I thank God for the wisdom. Because it is a lot more pleasant when it is a choice and you are used to it, as opposed to being forced into it and going crazy and complaining like most are doing now.
The Primaries will be over soon. And now we will have the hoopla of the General election. This is where it will get real exciting. Nothing short of a terrorist attack on American soil will give McCain any shot at the office. The money is behind Obama. And he is more posterboyish to sponsor the UN. In the meantime , we are getting poorer over here by the day. I am so ready to get out of here.

A wise move and I hope you bought some properties starting from 2005 when the exchange rate was very favorable and the property value was still low.If you have CPF, you should not have any difficulty into changing the properties to your name, though you have to pay various taxes to alter the names. As long as you use the properties wisely, you should get a good return.

Yes, I am keeping track of events in U.S and there again you might prove correct (Prophecy!). It is so obvious that Obama is also a front!! I dont know qhat his policy towards Brazil is going to be,but he is going to have one hell of a problem fixing the economic problem as well as convincing the U.N to solve the mess in Iraq.If one thinks seriously, it should not be a big problem, as U.N might convince Bangla Desh, Pakistan, Indonesia and other Muslim countries to provide troops to the U.N!!

btw, I replied to a long post made by Ricardo Amaral in www.brazzil.com (which is back to normal) and you may find it interesting and also contribute with your views. Why didn't ch.c just jump on the clear and evident stats in this article? Was he distracted / derailed by the tread in the posts? Hmmm. Nordest: 95 Billion GDP / 50 Million Pessoa = US$1900 a year. I say hell yes, who ever you are / where ever you are from this has got to be damb cheap investment-wise. Forget tourism. Consider only the plausible future opportunity to provide a return over investing in already deforested / desertificated lands. "puffer fish" smilies/cheesy.gif Doesn't want to rush anything. It is happening fast enough. Trust me , I am trying to get my act together. The "end of days" just means the end of a 6,000 year or so experimental mess with human governments. The "end of days will herald in something new and much better, right here on earth. A teaching right there in that old Good Book that most churches don't teach.. And by design,,, yessir! The less truth you know , the better. It is better for you to believe a lie that deep down you don't believe anyway like burning up in hell or striing on harps in heaven. If you can't get past the symbolism, ( by choice ,, lack of study) you stay in doubt and that fosters "indifference". Which makes a much more passive citizen to self serving governments. HA HA ! It is so obvious that Obama is also a front!! I dont know qhat his policy towards Brazil is going to be,but he is going to have one hell of a problem fixing the economic problem as well as convincing the U.N to solve the mess in Iraq

"House Negro turned Overseer" (very effective slave control tactic) rsrs.. I'm black. Just calling it as I see it. I know the system well.
As a front Obama will have very little to do, as there is nothing he can do anyway. For this reason he is there. He won't have to "convince" the U.N of anything as he is just there to deliver pretty speeches on why the help of the "global community" ( the U.N. ) is needed . I'd be surprised if he even gets healthcare socialized. The increasing economic crisis will eclipse all of that. As well as the clamor for U.S troops to pull out of Iraq. You see, we are getting "CHANGE" hammered into our heads now. It's just that no one knows what the "change" is going to be. As the old adage goes, "be careful what you ask for". But really no one is asking for it. It is being thrown at us. Thinkers are starting to catch on to this charade. But there are multitudes that HAVE to believe in something so politics plays its "opium" role just like religion.

Yes, I invested in the over $2 exchange rate era. I should have done it in the $3 era. I had no idea things would start happening so fast. I couldn't get back to the States soon enough to divest here. Thank God I did it in the nick of time. Because now I'd have been hard pressed to get anything sold. Proof you HAVE to pay attention to what they tell you and don't tell you.
I am invested on an island in the Saints Bay off the coast of Salvador. Kitchenettes. For those that want to escape city life , but with minimum expense. Main business though wil be fishing,. That is what we do. I figure that with low overhead on my own personal part (everything being paid for) worst case scenario I will be a life line food wise for me and my
loved ones.in the city. At any rate for now my crew plans to be very competitive in our pricing considering inflation. We will be able to do this by avoiding the lure of credit. I am in charge of bringing electronic trinkets. That's why I go back and forth so often. But even that is being cut short sooner than later as airfares have increased quite a bit here. They are even charging for check -in baggage now. It is truly crunch time here.
Learn to love and embrace the "concept" (?) of prophecy Joao. It may just save your life. It really isn't all doom and gloom the more you study. The final prophecies are great things to look forward to. Everthing is going to happen.. We just have to choose where we want to be in the Matrix. You can really become this "active" participant" for good or evil. Metaphysics is real.. Knowledge is real. Thoughts are things. You know the whole concept of who's controling your mind. This is real stuff.
If you ever hear anything close to what I have mentioned biblically by anyone else...... LISTEN VERY CLOSELY AND KEEP FOLLOWING IT. You'll know what I mean,, if you are searching.
There IS light at the end of this tunnel. smilies/wink.gif

your "With inflation going through the roof in most of the major playing nations"

Let me suggest you to simply look at the inflation rate in developed and emerging nations, Brazil included.
And you will note that inflation in developed countries are barely HALF of the average emerging nations.....AT BEST !!!!!!!

Funny that the commodities exporting nations HAVE A MUCH HIGHERR inflation rate than the commodities importing nations. When the opposite should be true.....! Especially at times of very high prices.
Think of it once more.
And that at times of low commodities prices, commodities exporting nations STILL have a higher inflation rate than the commodities importing nations !!!!!

Anyway you look at it, commodities exporting nations are LOSERS !
The reasons are quite easy : developed nations are relatively at controlling their INTERNAL inflation, but there is no way to control the IMPORTED inflation.
While emerging and commodities exporting nations....are VERY BAD to control their INTERNAL inflation....and also have no way to control the IMPORTED inflation.

More simple there is not.

I always learn from you.
Yes those are the "comparitive" (is that a word?) finer details. I was just talking from consumer perspective. For instance, gas in the States is still cheaper than a lot of other countries in relation to affordability according to income and in general overall. But for U.S consumers the higher prices in food and fuel "feel" like they are going through the roof.

I found the article.

All the history and questioning is WAY OVER MY HEAD.
I like to sift things through prophecy ( as dipsy as it may sound to the "intellectuals" on board) and then enjoy myself anticipating certain events and possible causes and effects, KNOWING or more correctly "believing" what the end result is going to be. And seeing if I was on target. Sometimes you're wrong.. But that is the fun in it.
I liked your comment on the speed at which everything appears to be happening and how it appears to come out of nowwhere with no debate from us "peons'. Not your quote exactly , but the essence of it.
The very reason why I have to incorporate "holy writings' , because without them none of what is going on would make any sense. smilies/wink.gif
Not incorporating the "profetic effect" , makes it too much work for me. And would be ultimately pointless. But with the profetic effect , I can guage where we are at in the stream of time. And get more urgent with my "inner work" and spreading the knowledge. Everyone gets a chance at KNOWING. In this realm it is Equal Oppurtunity.
I enjoyed Ricardos analysis. And your subsequent comments.

Hey, I need to know which article Ricardo posted on. I do want to read it.

Ricardo posted his question and I answered in the following link:

I'm black. Just calling it as I see it. I know the system well.

I know that and probably Ch.c will be horrified to know it (I doubt it though) smilies/wink.gif

It is a very good move. Hope you have brought some American style architecture to the Kitchenettes (or Swiss style, so as not to get Ch.c upset- Remember his motto-Value added Product).btw, do you know that Ch.c has a farm in Western Bahia to grow BBC?.

Thanks for the rest of the comments and I am playing close attention. Regarding Ch.c´s comments addressed to you, I just had a big laugh as he can turn out to be very professorial and he is absolutely right about the commodity exporting nations!! However, he is a very big player in the International Finance market and can afford to invest in large projects.

Re the following comment to Ch.c:

Keep the stats coming.

You don't know what sort of trouble you got into by asking him to do it smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/grin.gif

btw, even if you had not asked him, he would have come barging in like a bull in a China shop smilies/angry.gif

Yeah, they will be American style . Concrete decor. Minimalist effect. Something different to draw attention.
I figured Ch.c was a big player. It's amazing he has time to be blogging. Actually that's the way it should be if you have money.. More leisure time.. So he is doing something right.

  • Brazil Engaged in Another Olympics: Reshaping Its Image Before Games Open

Economist's cover on BrazilBrazil received a huge boost in its international image with its selection as the host of the 2016 Olympics, but it was really just the cherry on top of the overall recognition of the country's ascension to the ranks of one of the world's most important countries. Now, as it finally takes its place on the world scene, there has been a great deal of concern about what kind of image Brazil hopes to project, now that the world is really paying attention.

  • Iranian Leader's Visit to Brazil Takes the Gloss off Lula's International Image

Ahmadinejad meets LulaThe only good thing to say about the visit to Brazil of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on Monday November 23, is that it was mercifully short and lasted less than 24 hours. Ahmadinejad had his picture taken being hugged by president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva who gave him a warm welcome and said Iran had every right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

  • Poor Women from Northeast Brazil Learn Joy of Meeting and Helping Each Other

Joined hands The small, coastal town of Condé is located just a twenty minute's drive from João Pessoa, the capital of Paraíba. The Northeast of Brazil has historically been a place of encounter and mixing between peoples. For millenia groups of indigenous people fished, farmed, migrated and sometimes fought along this large, fertile area.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Lula Is About to Fulfill His Wish of Getting His Good Friend Chavez in Mercosur

Lula and Chavez On July 4, 2006, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay met in Caracas to sign the protocol for the entrance of Venezuela into the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). After two and a half years, the protocol was approved by the legislative bodies of Argentina and Uruguay, and as of now it may be only days away from being ratified by the continent's economic megalith, Brazil.

  • Denying Education is the Other AIDS. And Brazil Is Guilty of Inflicting It

Children from a Diadema band Some sectors of the fight against AIDS have suggested that Thabo Mbeki, the former president of South Africa, committed genocide through his absence from the fight against the illness in his country throughout his two terms.

  • Child Labor Went Down in Brazil, But 5 Million Underage Workers Are Still Way Too Many

Child labor in Brazil One hundred and eleven years after Brazil abolished slavery, the number of workers deprived of their freedom is still huge. They raise cattle, produce charcoal, sugar cane or timber. Some of them, most undocumented Bolivians, work in basements of small apparel factories in São Paulo and other metropolis.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.

  • Brazil's Amazon Rainforest Policy Is a One-Way Road to Disaster

Trasamazonian road in BrazilDepletion of the Amazon Rainforest is not a new concern facing environmentalists, biologists, ecologists, and a growing number of the Amazonian indigenous peoples. For decades they have feared for the fate of the world's most biologically diverse and species-rich hothouse.

Geisy Arruda from BrazilGeisy Arruda made history this week in Brazil, but for all the wrong reasons. What began as a poorly planned fashion statement has become a worldwide tale. Geisy decided to wear a pink mini-dress to her private college in São Paulo state, and after that, all hell broke loose.
