Brazil's Soy Exports Reach Record 4.4 Million Tons PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Sunday, 08 June 2008

Soybean plantation in Brazil In Brazil, exports of soybean reached a record 4.44 million tons in May, up from the 3.34 million in April and 3.15 million in May 2007, as farmer protests cut shipments from Argentina, according to grain and oilseed traders.

Argentine farmers on strike against the government's increase in export taxes have shut down grain shipments at Rosario port. Trading houses have been switching their orders from Argentina to Brazilian ports, at a time when international buyers are snapping up the South American soy harvest.

Brazil's previous monthly record soybean shipment was in July of 2006 when the country moved 4.37 million tons.

Meal and soy oil shipments were firm in May also but not at record levels. With a record soy harvest of just under 60 million tons by most counts and strong demand for shipments from abroad, Brazil is expected to export 27.3 million tons of beans, the Vegetable Oils Industry Association (Abiove) said.

Other supporting factors for the record May bean exports were likely the end of a port inspectors' strike in the past weeks and large international trading companies' desire to sell stocks rather than pay storage costs.

"We have a full Brazilian crop when some traders appear to have opted to export more grain rather than hang on to the beans to make meal and oil later in the year so they can avoid the cost of storage," said João Berkhan, director of Centro Grão traders.

And thanks to OPEC for your farmers nearly broke.

Just imagine that a few months ago, when oil prices where not as high as today, the transportation costs alone from Mato Grosso.....to port.....was US$ 130.- per ton.... or
Or 13.- BRL per 60 kg sacs.

And thank you...as you say..... to Fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, fongicides prices that went UP more than the Soybeans prices...during the last 12 months.

Just an info from a prof. in orosso....for you junkie...who just view the volume sold, not the cost of production....because idiot like you are certain that the cost of sales is the net profit....of course. Not so, not so

- "The expected average cost of production for soybeans in Mato Grosso for 2009 will be US$ 360 dollars per acre

According to data of the Association of Producers of Corn, Soybeans and the Aprosoja / State of Mato Grosso and based on a survey conducted by Agroconsult, the production cost of US$ 590 (average for the State in 07/ 0smilies/cool.gif and will increase to US$ 909 next season. Extending the basis of comparison, the increase is frightening. The average historical cost per hectare in the state for soybeans was around US$ 450 in the crops between 03/04 and 06/07.
This value, compared to the prior cost of planting of the new harvest of soybeans in the state, shows an increase of over 100%. The cost of production measured by the Institute of Mato Grosso-Agricultural Economics (Imea) can be, for example, more than US$ 990 in the city of Campo Novo do Parecis (369 km to the northwest of Cuiabá), to US$ 916 in Sorriso (460 km north of Cuiabá the largest world producer of grain), US$ 969 in Rondonópolis (210 km south of Cuiabá) and US$ 922 in Primavera do Leste (239 km south of Cuiabá).
The Executive Eirector of Aprosoja, Marcelo Duarte Monteiro, notes that all the cost projections take into account only variable factors such as the prices of seeds, fertilizers, crop defensives, workforce, taxes and technical assistance; "NOT included here what we call your fixed costs such as depreciation of machinery and the cost of land.
Through these references, the cost of producing per hectare reaches R$ 1670 in the state."

And another one....for next year 2009 :
- The availability of nitrogen (Urea) is higher. It's the phosphates and potash that are in tight supply. Given that top notch soybean producers need upwards of 500 pounds per acre of a 2-20-20; many many tons are needed. Fertilizer in the interior cerrado is 50% of the cost of production for 2009.

One more proof :
- US$1000 dollar a ton MAP fertilizer

And last for the road :
- 50% of Mato Grosso producers purchased fertilizer early for 2009.
Those that have not are talking about letting land grow back into pasture. Its just not worth the risk to plant soybeans in 2009. Some say if these market economics stay into 2009, they will not plant 1 acre of soybeans for 2010.

Viva the input suppliers. At least they do record earnings....not only record sales !!!!!

Do you think that Cosan is making a lot of money despite increasing its sugarcane production ?
Just look at the Cosan stock price....for the last 2 years : DOWN OVER 50 % FROM ITS PEAK.
What a great bull market !!!!!!

Whoaaa.

Costa....Costinha....stop getting ethanol injections. No good for your feijado !
