The second main fishery producer region in Brazil losing only to the Northeast is the North. It produces around 250,000 tons of fish a year compared to the Northeast with an annual production of 322,000 tons.

This information was disclosed by the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae) consultant Eduardo Ono, during a quarterly meeting of the 'Amazon Pirarucu' project. The event took place at Sebrae Amazonas.

Fishery is a sector in constant growth and, according to Ono, has a turnover of R$ 200 million (US$ 126 million) a year. The consultant explained that despite generating millions each year,

Brazil is still running a deficit in fish production, importing more than it exports. "The low volumes of domestic production are due to the lack of knowledge and training of rural producers," he added.

The 'Amazon Pirarucu' project is turned to fish farmers in the North, developing methodologies, information and strategies for reproduction, cultivation and trade of pirarucu bred in captivity.

"We hope to train 60 multiplier technicians and 60 fish farmers in pirarucu breeding up to the end of the project, in December 2009, as well as elaborating a market study and a marketing plan for producers in the Amazon," stated the project manager for the Amazon, Israel Folgoza.

...with your 7000 kms or ocean !!!!
And at least the same length in large rivers...normally full of fishes !!!!

No doubt the EU would be glad to import more fish instead of your ethanol !!!!!

Unless your fishes are already polluted with toxic industrial and public wastes....that you feel free to pour out in the ocean and your rivers !!!!

Probably you are ignorant about Brazil.

Brazilians don't use to eat fish because they are the biggest producer of meat in the world. “Churrasco” is much better.

yes brasil does produce beef but not a quility beef !!!
as you do not cut the bulls , so the meat is of lesser quility than argintia

but fish is very important to eat for humans gives several things you can not get from dead cows .

the problum with brasil fishing insdurty is the
lack of money , education and coruption

2 men on a 3 m X 1 1/2 meter raft is not a fishing boat for export .
11 men on a 14 meter sail boat is not a boat for fish export

but yet up in sao louis marion
the koreans have 6 large fishing boats at dock shipping all back home .
in my travels up and down the coast of brasil i have seen many of fishing boats in brasilian waters
but not from brasil , taking fish and selling it off to other countries

i ask one boat captian how he did it simple he said .
brasil has no NAVY or coast guard to dtop them , and even
the one time he was stoped by them he paid them $1.000 in fine and they let him go with his fish .

the other problum is in fortalaza
the lobster fishermen they take any thing with eyes .
what is not leagle to sell at the co op
the sell to the palapas on the beach for tourise and rich brasilians to eat .

no laws , no money , no school .
no fish export

would be glad to teach them
