Brazil: Cargo at Amazonas' Manaus International Airport Grows 13% PDF Print E-mail

zzz The Teca (Terminal de Carga Aérea - Air Cargo Terminal) at Manaus Eduardo Gomes International Airport, in Amazonas state, registered an increase of 13.2% in product throughput in the first seven months of this year, when compared to the same period in 2007.

The cargo movements in the airport totaled 89,097 tons of cargo, against 78,703 tons from January to July last year. This information was disclosed
August 7 by the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero).

With this result, Teca/Manaus is in the third place in product throughput among other logistics terminals belonging to Infraero, just behind the units at São Paulo International Airport /Guarulhos and Viracopos International Airport/Campinas (both in the state of São Paulo).

According to Infraero, the greatest growth was identified in the turnout of domestic cargo, which grew 21.9%. From January to July, cargo throughput totaled 30,985 tons, against 25,406 in the same period last year. This total includes products going to other states that enter the country through the Teca.

Shipments of cargo to the rest of Brazil grew 14.1%, which represented the second most expressive growth in the seven first months of the year. This activity, which consists of the cargo coming from the Industrial Hub of Manaus, had a throughput of 29,684 tons, against 25,999 tons in 2007.

With regard to cargo movement from abroad, the Teca registered growth of 8.8%. Shipments arriving reached 25,196 tons, against 23,155 in the first seven months of last year.
