Knowledge - A Sacred Right" has started in BrasÃlia, capital of Brazil,
yesterday. The event seeks to protect native Indian culture and traditions.
Marcos Terena, who is coordinating the event, and is an Indian himself, says
that one of the major problems facing Indian groups is protection of their
intellectual property. |

They are known as the "politically missing" and a commission has been set up to deal with paying their families indemnity. Known as the Special Comission for the Politically Missing and Dead, it is presently examining 13 cases. |

Since April, 2003, all food products or ingredients intended for human or animal consumption in Brazil that contain more than 1 percent of transgenic components are required to convey this information to consumers on the label. |

Although no specific prediction is ventured, the minutes of the most recent meeting of Brazil's Copom (Monetary Policy Committee), released today by the Brazilian Central Bank (BC), include the remark that in the present context, with annualized interest rates of 16 percent and the exchange rate at a level of 3.00 reais to the American dollar, inflation forecasts exceed the official targets of 5.5 percent for this year and 4.5 percent for 2005, with tolerance limits of 2 percent in either direction. |
