Everything is set in Brazil for Sunday's (October 23) referendum on sales of firearms and ammunition, when citizens will be asked to cast a yes or no vote in answer to the question: "Should the sale of firearms and ammunition be prohibited in Brazil?"

According to data from the Federal Elections Court, over 122 million voters, including over 59 million men and over 62 million women, are eligible to participate in the referendum. Polling places will open at 8 AM and close at 5 PM on Sunday. Voting is compulsory.

According to the most recent survey conducted by the Ibope institute, the results of which were announced last Friday, October 14, the two sides are statistically tied, with a slight advantage in favor of the "no" votes (49%, as against 45% for those who intend to vote "yes").

Voting is compulsory? Do they have some kind of internet voting or voting by mail? What if someone is on vacation...or sick...are they fined??? Is that legal in a DEMOCRACY?

Voting is compulsory unfortunatly. We don't have internet or mail voting, but we do have the most sofistcate eletronic voting method. We knew the results after only 3 hours after the session's closed.
We can justify your absence if you are sick or travelling.
