Brazil's Leather Exports to the US Grow 36%

Brazilian leather exports grew 8% last year, when compared to 2004. The increase was from US$ 1.29 billion to US$ 1.40 billion, according to the Confederation of Brazilian Hides and Skins Industries (CICB).

In the month of December alone sales generated US$ 131.9 million, a value 16% greater than the US$ 113.8 million registered in the month of December 2004.

In the year of 2005 there was a significant increase in sales to South Korea, the United States and Netherlands. To the South Koreans, shipments rose by 62%, from US$ 24 million to US$ 38.9 million.

With regard to leather exports to the United States, they grew 36% last year, as against 2004, from US$ 114.7 million to US$ 156.2 million. In the same period, sales to the Netherlands grew 33%, from US$ 21.6 million to US$ 28.9 million.
