Our Founder's Story
brazzilmag.com was founded in 2001 by Isabella Martins, a Brazilian-American journalist with a passion for sharing Brazil's stories with the world.
Born in São Paulo and educated in the United States, Isabella experienced firsthand the lack of nuanced reporting on Brazilian affairs in international media. After working for major news outlets in both countries, she recognized the need for a dedicated platform that could present Brazil's complex realities to English-speaking audiences.
"I created brazzilmag.com because I believe that understanding Brazil is essential to understanding our interconnected world," says Isabella. "Too often, international coverage reduces Brazil to stereotypes or focuses solely on crises. I wanted to show the full picture – the challenges, yes, but also the innovations, the cultural richness, and the everyday stories that make Brazil such a fascinating country."
